This tutorial will explain step-by-step, how to build your own pet maze.
To start off, you will need to gather the proper materials.
Materials needed:
A large sheet of plastic, metal, or wood for the bottom.
Non toxic adhesive (We will use a hot glue gun for this example)
A saw
Wood or other material to make the walls.
Mesh to create a lid (optional)
Step 1: Preparation
Cut the wood out into a height that will not allow your rats to “cheat”.
You may also want to draw your maze beforehand to calculate where everything will go.
Note: You can create any size maze you want for your rats so do not limit yourself to the sizes in this tutorial.
Step 2: Assembly
Using the hot glue gun, attach the wall pieces to the bottom of the maze.
- Attach the walls to the outside of the maze to create a barrier.
- Attach the inner walls to the maze to create a challenging toy for your pets.
- Attach the mesh to the top of the maze to stop the rats from escaping.

The maze project comes down to using your own creativity to create something that will really give your pets something fun to play with. Consider using treats to help guide them through it and to the end. After a few runs they will have it down and you can time them to see who is the fastest of your pets!
